Experience

Thilaga was originally called to the Bar in 2007 and cross-qualified to become a solicitor in 2009. Prior to this, she worked with various law firms where she developed multiple case working skills. Her extensive experience in the immigration field was acquired during her stint at O’Keeffe Solicitors where she was an Immigration Advocate from 2004-2007.

Thilaga joined Trident Legal in 2009 as head of Immigration and Dispute Resolution. She became the firm’s in-house Advocate for all Immigration and General Civil Litigation, working with many barristers, including some well-known Silks, on a range of contentious matters at Arbitration and Mediation tribunals as well as in the Civil Courts. She has represented international clients from Sri Lanka, Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia, often in complex matters with multiple jurisdictions. Alongside her case work, Thilaga also became Compliance Officer and gained experience in SRA regulation and related issues.

Due to her extensive experience, Thilaga was only required to complete 3 months of second pupillage to become a fully qualified member of the Bar. She has acted as junior in some highly complex asylum and criminal deportation cases. Thilaga qualified in June 2019.

A barrister’s testimony when Thilaga was a solicitor

“She has already encountered and mastered many of the commonly recurring situations that would face a junior barrister in the first few years of their practice, both in terms of advocacy, drafting, ethical conundrums, and knowledge of the area of law in which she intends to practise. She is already crafted to the kind of challenges these roles come with”
