POCA News: Samir Pasha assists in securing return of £20,000 cash seized

Samir successfully assisted a Chinese university student studying in the UK in a cash seizure and detention matter.

The client was stopped by the police whilst driving and had his car searched, where £20,000 cash was found. The police seized the cash under suspicion that it may be from criminal conduct and applied to Carlisle Magistrates Court for a detention order under s295(2) POCA 2002, which was subsequently granted.

Samir assisted the client by preparing an explanation accompanied by a bundle setting out a money trail to demonstrate that the cash was obtained legitimately.

The financial investigator was satisfied with the explanation provided and the full cash amount was transferred by the police to the client’s account.
