Crime News: Crown offer no evidence in Stalking trial

Samir Pasha’s client was charged with Stalking, contrary to section 2A(1) and (4) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

The case related to a neighbour in the same block of flats, who had alleged that Samir’s client had been pursuing conduct amounting to stalking.

Samir’s client vehemently denied the allegations and impressed upon the consensual nature of the relationship, comprising mostly of Instagram and text messages.

Robust representations were made following late disclosure of WhatsApp messages by the Crown, which further reinforced the consensual nature of their romantic relationship, including sexual conversations.

Minutes before the trial was due to commence at Stratford Magistrates Court, the Crown offered no evidence and thereby formally acquitting Samir’s client.

The Court instead imposed a post-acquittal restraining order of non-contact with the complainant.
