Client given 12 month sentence for possession of ID document with improper intention
Samir Pasha’s client, a young man, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a prohibited weapon in a private place, namely a zombie knife.
From the outset the client had explained his life circumstances and how he found himself in this difficult position. After extended consultations with the client, Samir advised that a modern slavery assessment and referral be made on behalf of the client. The assessment and referral both confirmed that Samir’s client was a victim of modern slavery and was being threatened and coerced with violence to hold onto drugs and carry out tasks against his will.
With a combination of Samir’s guidance and solicitor’s efforts, effective representations were made to the Crown setting out the position of the client, who in turn accepted and decided to offer no evidence on both counts as it was not in the public interest.
